A 10 year-old girl from Chicago, Paarl-East, who lived with her grandmother and the grandmother's boyfriend in a toilet, acquired a deep cut to her right hand.  Our Explorers Co-ordinator got concerned about her and noticed that she was absent from school.  She sent our two wonderful fieldworkers to go and look for her.  They found the girl playing in a field across from where she lives.

Her hand was swollen (almost twice the size of her normal hand-size and severely infected).  After the fieldworker's intervention, the headmaster accompanied the child's grandmother and our two fieldworkers to the provincial hospital and sat and waited with them to notify the doctors of the child protection nature of this situation.  The girl's hand had to be cleaned under sedation and she was kept in hospital for the weekend.  DSD rose to the occasion and together with the social worker in the hospital arranged for the girl, her mother and siblings to be placed at Athlone House of Safety from where her school attendance is now monitored.  We thank the Lord for our fieldworker's amazing work they are doing!
